Is Botox right for you?

When you think about making a change to your face, think about what areas bother you. What are the problems and trouble zones you would like to fix?  If you want to rapidly achieve a more youthful appearance because of fine lines and wrinkles, Botox may be right for you.  Make an appointment now.  Call us at (305) 504-8942.

How does Botox work?

Many of the wrinkles we see on our faces are due to the dynamic facial expressions we perform everyday, often without conscious awareness.  Botulinum Toxin A is a purified protein that works by weakening or relaxing the muscles of facial expression, which insert into the facial skin.  Once the resting tone of these muscles is weakened, the pulling action of these muscles relaxes and the skin flattens out.  Fine lines and wrinkles begin to soften and in many cases are eliminated.

Other than rare allergic reaction, there are no serious side effects associated with the use of the Botox since we use relatively small doses.  Botox has been used for over 20 years and has a very good safety profile.

What Can I Expect?

Our PA will personally see you and discuss your goals and recommend the best treatment for you.  Part of this process is assessing your facial expressions and movement and deciding together which areas should or should not be treated.  Any questions you have about Botox or the treatment process will be answered.  If Botox is recommended, you will sign a consent form.

We will begin to inject the Botox.  We inject tiny amounts at strategic places on the face with a very small needle.  Most patients report feeling nothing or perhaps very slight discomfort.

We will give you some aftercare instructions, including keeping your hands away from the treated areas for a few hours, no weight lifting for a few hours, etc., and then you are free to go about your normal day.  The entire appointment should take no longer than 15-30 minutes.

Botox takes two (2) to ten (10) days to take effect and lasts between 3-4 months in most individuals, but can last longer.

Possible rare side effects include a small droop of the eyebrow or upper eyelid, localized tenderness or swelling around injection sites, or bruising.  Fortunately, if drooping occurs, it is temporary but may last for a few weeks.  For this reason, we suggest you plan Botox appointments 2 weeks before a special event.

As Botox wears off you will notice a gradual return of the wrinkles.  Often, when the wrinkles return they are not as deep as they were before.  Some studies show that with regular repeated injections you may maintain your fresh, relaxed, wrinkle-free appearance for longer periods of time.

Botox is used to enhance your appearance, but does not take the place of other facial procedures such as face-lift, blepharoplasty, or laser resurfacing if this is what you need.
